BLACK GETS TO ROOT OF ALL EVIL AT TABU

lewis_black.jpg
We’re betting he did some comical sputtering. (Via LewisBlack.net)

Comedian Lewis Black dropped in at Tabu inside MGM Grand last night where he and his entourage drank bottles of Silver Oak wine and posed for pictures with fans of rant-based comedy.

If only he had gotten here a day earlier, he could’ve adjudicated a mock trial between Arsenio and Eddie Murphy about which was more evil: Harlem Nights or Daddy Day Care.

KICKIN’ IT OLD SKOOL

Jamie Kennedy not included.

Break out your copy of Krush Groove and start practicing your headspins, because your time, intrepid b-boy who still wears track suits and adidas with no laces in 2008 who we just made up, has come.

Legendary beatboxer Doug E. Fresh comes to Tabu’s old-school hip-hop party, Slide, inside MGM Grand tomorrow night. Breakdancers are welcome to come test their mettle against Mr. Freeze of the Rock Steady Crew. Unfortunately, a Bronx subway car from 1978 will not be provided for all your graffiti needs.

STYLE AND SIN

caldwell.jpg
FACT: DJ Andy Caldwell will be performing his entire set in a bunny suit. (Note: This is not actually a fact.)
If you could just stop painting eggs for five damn minutes on Sunday, you could learn a thing or two about fashion.

Tabu at MGM Grand puts on its House of Style series Sunday at 11 p.m. featuring clothes by Street Sense and tunes by Bay Area DJ Andy Caldwell.

Tabu is also celebrating its monthly sin, greed, as part of the event. While we might not tempt fate by giving a shout-out to a specific sin on Easter Sunday, we applaud the fact that Tabu is braver than us.

MELE MEL BRINGS HIS MESSAGE TO TABÚ

mele Mel

Slide at Tabú Ultra Lounge in the MGM Grand continues to keep the old-school alive this Thursday, Feb. 28 with a double dose of hip-hop royalty: Grammy-winning rap pioneer Grandmaster Mele Mel and DMC DJ Hall of Famer Grand Mixer DXT.

The duo will rock the turntables and the microphone during the Thursday night party celebrating the best in past and present of hip-hop culture. Mele Mel — who, along with the rest of the Furious Five, was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 — released his first solo album last year, Muscles. The beefy rapper has also been vying for a spot in the WWE, even attending pro wrestling school (they have those?).

Come out to Tabú on Thursday to check out these influential figures in hip-hop and the usual bevy of B-boys and B-girls. Just watch out for Mele Mel in case he tries a clothesline or elbow drop in the midst of his set.

HART ROKS THE BOX AT TABÚ

Carey Hart
(Photos courtesy SpyOnVegas.com)

Sightings of Carey Hart in Las Vegas aren’t exactly rare. I mean, he lives here, he owns a tattoo shop here (Hart & Huntington at the Palms, of course), etc. But we figure you’d like to know that the motocross star and husband to pop singer Pink was kicking it last night during Rok Box at Tabú Ultra Lounge inside the MGM Grand.

Hart and his homies enjoyed Absolut vodka and Patrón shots, and he took time out from his partying to sign autographs and take photos with fans. DJs Scotty Boy and Rockaton kept things pumping with their mash-ups of old-school rock and hip-hop.

TABÚ GEARS UP FOR MAGICAL WEEK

TABÚ

As we may have already mentioned, the semiannual MAGIC Marketplace hits Las Vegas next week, and that means almost every Vegas nightclub worth its weight is hosting nightly after-parties.

Tabú Ultra Lounge inside MGM Grand will start its week early with the latest installment of its Confession series, Gluttony, on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 11 p.m. DJ Ruff, named “Best International House DJ” by the Spanish Music Awards, will provide hypnotic house beats while a mix of entertainers – ranging from percussionists to vocalists – will perform to enhance the mood. And don’t forget, free tarot card readings for you ladies curious about your fortunes.

The MAGIC madness at Tabú begins in earnest on Wednesday, Feb. 13, as the ultra lounge hosts an after-party for Belleview Clothing Co., an urban-influenced, sophisticated apparel line based in Denver. While DJ Jose 2 Hype spins the music, Tabú’s VIP hosts will showcase Belleview’s fashions. Click for more words and pictures »

KURTIS BLOW GOES OLD SCHOOL AT TABÚ

Kurtis Blow

Lace up your Adidas and throw on that Puma tracksuit – we’re getting old-school with the return of “Slide” at Tabú Ultra Lounge, launching its new schedule this Thursday at 10 p.m. with special guest Kurtis Blow.

That’s right, kids – Kurtis Blow, the first rapper to sign to a major label and author of the classic old-school anthem “The Breaks,” will be on hand to blow your little minds on Jan. 31 at the MGM Grand nightlife destination. Blow has been holding it down on Sirius Radio’s classic rap station, Backspin 43, and he’s working on launching a tour featuring other pioneering hip-hop artists such as Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Mele Mel.

Blow has also been studying theology at Nyack College, working toward a doctorate with a focus on apostology. As a self-proclaimed elder spokesman of hip-hop, Blow also has strong opinions about the current industry. Click for more words and pictures »

JES RICKLEFF HOSTS ROK BOX OF LOVE

Jes Rickleff
(Photos by Eric Ita | SpyOnVegas.com)

It was reality-palooza at Tabú Ultra Lounge inside MGM Grand last night as Jes Rickleff, winner of VH1’s Rock of Love, hosted the weekly “Rok Box” mash-up party. The tattooed blonde partied it up with a crew that included fellow Rock of Love contestant Brandi Mahon, doing Washington Apple shots and finishing off bottles of Absolut 100 at the lounge’s center table.

Reportedly, other guests at Tabú lingered close to Rickleff’s table, but we’re guessing it’s just because they were hoping Rickleff and Mahon would make out. Well, that was our hope, at least.

ADULT STARS OVERTAKE MGM GRAND

Nikki Benz and Puma Swede
(Photos by Ray Alamo | SpyOnVegas.com)

You’d think we’d be tired of reporting on porn star sightings by now. Heh, “tired of porn stars.” What a concept.

Friday night, the MGM Grand was overrun by some of the adult film industry’s most prominent stars as Nikki Benz and Puma Swede — in matching pink minidresses — hosted a party at Studio 54. Along with entertaining the crowd by working the stripper pole specifially requested for their VIP area, the pair also drew a bevy of their porn pals, including Peter North, Lisa Daniels, Angie Savage, Devon Savage, Veronica Rayne, Kayla Paige, and Buck Angel. TABÚ CONFESSES ITS SINS

Slide Sundays at Tabu
(Photo by Hew Burney | SpyOnVegas.com)

Tabú, Las Vegas’ original ultralounge inside the MGM Grand, is doing a little rearranging to its weekly schedule, continuing to innovate the Vegas nightlife scene with the addition of Confession to its lineup on Sunday nights. Confession, which launches Jan. 13, will feature a different sin theme each month, kicking off with our favorite, Lust.

Chicago house DJs Tony Arzadon and Nathan Scott will preside over the opening affair, which will also feature percussionists, vocalists and a psychic offering free tarot card readings for the ladies (not like the guys are lining up to have their fortunes told). Arzadon will DJ again on Jan. 20, and on Jan. 27, DJs Nic Fanciulli and Chris Garcia present House of Style. Click for more words and pictures »
