NEEEEEEERDS!
FINALLY, for one night we can go somewhere where talking about Voltron for 45 minutes will be normal. We were going to do it anyway, but nouveau New Wavers The Spazmatics at Rok Vegas inside New York-New York make it a more nerd-friendly environment tonight instead of say, having the conversation with the cashier at the grocery store like we had planned. Naturally, it’s a nerd costume party too, with DJ sets from Robert Oleysyck, Alex Terranova and Freddy B. Click for more words and pictures »

You could argue they wouldn’t tolerate Jive Turkeydom. You could also argue we just wanted to put up a pic of Sanford and Son.
Just admit it: Thanksgiving morning wouldn’t be complete without a pounding hangover. To properly kick off the start of a four-day weekend, Rok Vegas at New York-New York hosts Jive Turkey 3 with DJs Aurajin and Shr3d with a live performance from RnR. The SpyOnVegas Open Bar runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on the patio, and $59 rooms are available just so you don’t have to call your parents to bail you out from a DUI while they’re trying to watch a parade. Apparently there’s a club that disagrees.

At one time, this was a society-shaking controversy.
Tonight’s a tough call. Revolution at The Mirage has Biz Markie, who Heineken decided need to be the official soundtrack for not drunk driving (which is pretty awesome, all things considered), but Rok Vegas at New York-New York has 2 Live Crew. How do they expect us to choose between “Just a Friend” and “Me So Horny?” Do they think we’re made of stone? It’s like trying to choose between which one of your children you like better. Oh, wait. The boy. That was actually easier than we thought it would be. Click for more words and pictures »

Photos of the elusive Vanilla Ice are as rare as that of Sasquatch. (Photo by Scott Harrison | Retna)
You thought he was just some kind of bogeyman your parents used to scare you into behaving. “Timmy, if you don’t clean up your room tonight, Vanilla Ice is going to come out from under your bed and eat you.” “Billy, eat your vegetables. Vanilla Ice can sense Vitamin D deficiency in children, and he snatches them up to live in his cabin in the woods.” Yes, we know. We’ve heard all the old stories. But Vanilla Ice is real, and he’s going to be at Rok Vegas inside New York-New York tonight. You’ve been warned.

Everybody’s talkin’ all this stuff about him. Why don’t they just let him live?

Celebrating the golden era of G-funk from 1992 to late 1992. (Photo by Hew Burney | SpyOnVegas.com)
The last time Warren G was here, he wound up getting stuck in an elevator after his show. Not even Nate Dogg could get him out, and that guy rides to Warren’s rescue like, all the time. Tonight, G will be performing at Rok Vegas inside New York-New York. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to go listen to “Regulate” 15 or 20 times to get the song out of our head. You can imagine how hard this was in junior high when it was on MTV every 48 seconds.

The medina will be both funky and cold at Rok Vegas inside New York-New York tonight. There’s probably nothing we can’t tell you about Tone Loc that you don’t already know. He released his hit album Loc-ed After Dark in ’89, he had a less-successful follow up Cool Hand Loc in ’91. He went on to found software giant Loc-rosoft in ’93, painted the Mona Loc-a in ’96 and starred in beloved sitcom The Fresh Loc of Bel-Air in ’97.

Rok Vegas at New York-New York had DJ Class in last night to do “I’m the Ish” followed by stoner emo-hop performer Kid Cudi to come do a set that closed with “Day ‘n’ Nite,” the minimalist anthem for everyone who’s packing a bowl and feeling sorry for themselves. Check out the full set of photos over at SpyOn.
