VAN DYK IN THE HOUSE AT 54

Against that backdrop, Paul van Dyk looks like he’s going to have to fight Superfly Snuka after his set.

Paul van Dyk did what he does best — spin for the crowd — Sunday night at Studio 54 inside MGM Grand. Van Dyk hit the stage around 1 a.m. for a cheering crowd dancing and waving glow sticks (Really? They still do that? Huh.) before giving way to DJ Matt Darey for Late Night.

Also on Sunday, Scooby-Doo and Wing Commander actor Matt Lillard kicked off two days of lounging poolside at Caesars’ Venus Pool Club. On Sunday it was pina coladas, but on Monday he went with Cape Cods. Sometimes you’ve got to make the tough decisions in life. After you put together a resume like Lillard’s, you can rest right on those laurels.

Meanwhile, Drai’s at Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall saw Drew Gooden make an appearance, while sister club Tryst at Wynn Las Vegas, director Brett Ratner took time off from figuring out how to make a Guitar Hero movie (no, really) to do a little partying.

THE KING OF KA

Michael Jackson + lasers + sequins = awesome/X, where X = disco flava.

Michael Jackson and his three kids were at the 7 p.m. performance of Ka at MGM Grand last night. Jackson has been awfully active in the public eye lately (well, what counts for him as active — he still wore a hoodie and a face mask), having been spotted in recent weeks going to the movies at the Palms and seeing sister Cirque act Mystere on July 29. Today, the rumor breaks that Jackson might be involved in the MTV Video Music Awards.

After the show, Jackson said it was the best production he’s ever seen and that it was his favorite of the Cirque shows. We assume he means best production he’s ever seen that didn’t involve well-choreographed zombies.

G-UNIT ROLLS INTO TABU

Young Hot Rod’s single “I Like to Fuck” was recently honored by the Academy as the Least Subtle Song of All-Time.

Tabu at MGM Grand brought in Tha Alkaholiks to kick things off for a 20-minute set at a KNYEW Clothing party and ended up with the G-Unit. Sorry, Lloyd Banks fans, but this time it was Young Hot Rod who got on stage for a surprise show while KNYEW co-founder DJ Crooked took over on the turntables.

The Vegas-based boutique is the product of Crooked and DJ Neva.

DONNIE AND MARIE START THE SHOW

We sincerely hope they covered the Stones’ “You Got the Silver.” (Photo by Scott Harrison | Retna)

Donnie and Marie Osmond kicked off their reunion last night with a show at the MGM Grand’s Hollywood Theatre. The duo will take over headlining duties at The Flamingo come Sept. 9. Donnie and Marie are, of course, the famous crime-fighting duo that protect the streets of Gotham City. Or do we have the Dark Knight opening on the brain still? Tough to tell.

STUDIO 54 CATCHES THE VAPORS

This is the official Biz Markie Beat Boxing Doll. Yes, that IS the coolest toy ever made.

You know what nightclubs don’t have enough of? Biz Markie. We suppose, though, it’s not possible to EVER have enough Biz Markie, unless maybe Biz Markie has an estranged wife or something. We’d look it up, but the man is a bona fide enigma who defies petty social conventions.

The Diabolical himself will be at Studio 54 inside MGM Grand tonight for Influence 2080s with Mr. Freeze of the Rock Steady Crew and DJ Scene as part of the club’s weekly ’80s-themed party. Ladies who wear leg warmers will drink for free until midnight, but then, they’d also have to be wearing leg warmers. It’s a bit of a catch-22.

In the meantime: The Biz vs. The Nuge.

0714MON: THE ROUNDUP

Hat and glasses compliments of DMC. (Candice Vega | SpyOnVegas.com)

It’s another Monday and another edition of Rok Box at Tabu courtesy of DJs Scotty Boy and Daryl O, presenting a slew of rock and hip-hop mash-up. We tend to prefer our rock unmashed, or at least lumpy. Kind of a homestyle rock. It’s even better if you leave the skins on. Click for more words and pictures »

HEY BIG SPENDER

We’re sure you stunned all your friends and wowed the ladies by sending that five bones to a fiery grave. For your next trick, you should melt down a handful of nickels there, Billy Gates.

UFC PACKS PUNCH OVER WEEKEND

Do not, under any circumstances, tell Chuck Liddell, “Hit me!”

Chuck Liddell started UFC 86 weekend in grand, old-school Vegas tradition, dealing blackjack at the Hard Rock Hotel Friday night. It also marked a new record for player 20s beat by dealer 21s that went by without complaint. Not since O.J. dealt a few hands in ‘95 were players so cheerful about losing.

Over at Studio 54 inside MGM Grand, ring girl Arianny Celeste hosted a prefight party along with WEC fighter Urijah Faber. Devon George of the Dallas Mavericks also stopped by.

Saturday night was the main event, with Forrest Griffin capturing the light heavyweight title from Quinton “Rampage” Jackson by unanimous decision. The Iceman hosted the official afterparty at Studio 54, stopping on the way in to greet fans before settling in to his skybox. Click for more words and pictures »

Wet Republic at MGM Grand knows what Fourth of July Weekend is all about: Grilling. For the third straight day, the pool holds a backyard barbecue at 11 a.m. to ensure that you will have consumed at least your body weight in hamburgers and hot dogs. It’s a noble calling. Kaskade spins to make it all go down easier. Now for some potato salad. Click for more words and pictures »

Wet Republic at MGM Grand does Daylife Sundays at 11 a.m. with legendary DJ Benny Benassi on his Rock N Rave Tour. Benassi brings a touch of Italy to the pool party, by which we mean he’ll be periodically sprinkling oregano on girls in bikinis. Looking for sun in all the wrong places? Read on.
