Cocktail superstar and hero to bartenders, children and man-children bloggers obsessed with liquor, Tony Abou-Ganim signed copies of his new book The Modern Mixologist: Contemporary Classic Cocktails at Mandarin Oriental’s Mandarin Bar last night. Naturally, there was booze involved.

Ganim, along with William Grant & Sons company mixologist — and Mandarin Bar menu maven — Charlotte Voisey talked cocktails while mixing up their own respective signature drinks the Cable Car (Ganim) and the Golden Leaf (Voisey). It’s like an education, but with alcohol. Like when hobos bring fortified wine to the library.

Mandarin Oriental, part of the soon-to-be-fully-operational Death Star, showed off the threads its employees would be wearing as part of a weekend fashion show that included a parade. The tragic downside of all this, though, is that Mandarin doesn’t offer gaming, so there was no fashion show of cocktail waitresses. They should’ve got the girls from M Resort to come in just on principle.
