FRANKIE VALLI, LINE 3

No suspenders? This is an outrage. (Photo by B.J. Allen)

Larry King, who was around when it was Old Jersey, brought wife Shawn to go see Jersey Boys at Palazzo. Of course, he still thinks of doo-wop as “that damn music the kids won’t stop blaring at all hours of the day and night,” but it’s good to see him get out and try new things. He and Shawn went backstage after the show to meet the cast and make them feel bad they haven’t called their great-great-great-great grandfathers in like forever.

Over at Vanity, the Nuggets’ Kenyon Martin brought 20 friends to the VIP while the Celtics’ Glen Davis had his own crew of a few friends. Also in the club was K-Fed’s brother, Chris Federline. Things are pretty tough in life when your identity is as “K-Fed’s brother.”

Moon at the Palms also drew the NBA, with CJ Watson partying with a group of 10 until 3 a.m. Comic Kyle Dunnigan showed up at the Playboy Club around 2 a.m. before going upstairs to Moon for an hour.

JERSEY MEETS MODERN

Stonestreet
Really not hard to stand out as ‘Not the Jersey Boy,’ is it? (Photo by B.J. Allen)

Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet was at last night’s performance of Jersey Boys to check out friend Travis Cloer, who plays Frankie Valli in the show. It’s got to be pretty cool working with Ed O’Neill like that. You get to spend all day talking about Married … With Children. And Dutch. Basically what we’re trying to say here, is that Ed O’Neill needs to be in more sitcoms and movies. Spread the O’Neill around a little bit.

BOYS CRACKS 1 MILLION

Jersey
That’s a lot of late December 1963. (Photo by Erik Kabik | Retna)

Jersey Boys celebrated its two-year anniversary Saturday night, with Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli getting on stage to receive a platinum record — with 1 million copies of the cast album sold — from Kevin Gore of Rhino Records to commemorate the occasion. It’s a pretty solid run for the musical, but it’s kind of shocking that not one member of The Drifters has come forward with their own script. We would never stop drafting new ideas if that was the difference between a platinum record and playing the Sahara.

On Friday, shrieky talk-show host Tyra Banks was backstage at Viva Elvis at Aria after dinner at Julian Serrano with two America’s Next Top Model producers. They went to scope the behind-the-scenes action prior to the 9:30 p.m. performance. Her mother and two friends joined her for the show, and they ended the night at Haze.

The Ben Roethlisberger six-game suspension seems pretty harsh, when you consider he wasn’t charged with a crime and Michael Vick’s suspension was only two games after he got out of jail. That having been said, if it was Tony Romo who got the suspension, we wouldn’t blink. Because screw the Cowboys, that’s why. Romo was at XS inside Encore Friday night, while sister club Tryst saw Enrrique Iglesias starting there before bouncing over to XS. Click for more words and pictures »

SHOW STARS DELIVER MEALS

MadisonTgiving
There’s a joke in here somewhere about pastry bags. (Photos by Scott Harrison | Retna)

Le Cordon Bleu did its Thanksgiving lunch yesterday, picking up a bevy of celebrity servers to sit tight on pie-handing-out duties, which, as we all know, are the most sacred duties a person can perform. (Take THAT, priests who hear confession or rabbis who perform weddings. Is there pie in a wedding? Check. And. Mate.)

Peepshow’s Holly Madison and Josh Strickland, Jersey Boys’ Rick Faugno, Phantom’s Anthony Crivello, Kristi Holden and Andrew Ragone — plus Mayor Oscar Goodman — came together to feed 40 at-risk students from After School All Stars and 40 disadvantaged seniors meals prepared by students at the culinary school. Our efforts to get our kitchen classified as a center for at-risk youth and have culinary students come over to cook our Thanksgiving dinner failed for the fourth straight year.

DANCER TAKES IN JERSEY SONGS

Kym
You can see the kidnapping wheels spinning.

Dancing with the Stars’ Kym Johnson gave the gift of Jersey Boys to her mother for her birthday last night. Well, we mean, not literally. She did not put a bow on Deven May for her mother’s amusement or anything like that. That would probably be kidnapping, and Johnson has a high-profile gig to worry about.

Regardless, the two of them went backstage after the show to meet the cast. Which is exactly the kind of cover you’d want if you were going to, say, kidnap a performer from the musical theater solely for the amusement of your immediate family. Also at Palazzo was Enrique Iglesias, hanging out at Lavo after the Latin Grammys.

Mets outfielder Gary Sheffield celebrate day No. 173 of the Mets’ offsesaon at N9NE Steakhouse inside the Palms with two friends. Vince Neil and his wife were also at N9NE. Neil, it should be noted, had as much chance to make the playoffs this year as anyone who actually played on the Mets. Neil’s tattoo shop at the Rio was host to X Games medalist and BMX rider Chad Kagy on Wednesday, who was in to get some work done. Speaking of Mets, former catcher Mike Piazza had breakfast at Simon inside Palms Place this morning. The Mets really missed Piazza’s bat this year. And we mean the one Clemens threw at him in the 2000 World Series. That was actually more productive than anything anyone in the lineup did all season.

MAGIC DRAWS IN VERONICAS

veronicas
(Photos by Al Powers | SpyOnVegas.com)

Why haven’t the Veronicas gone on tour with The Archies yet? And why don’t they cover that Elvis Costello song? You know, “Watching the Detectives.” Or the other one. Either way, sisters Jessica and Lisa Origliasso, the electro-pop group that’s heavily involved in the fashion world, were at Tao inside The Venetian for the MAGIC kick-off party where Benji Madden was spinning.

The sisters got up in the booth to dance behind Madden before going back to his table while he finished his set.

Over at XS inside Encore, Jon Gosselin turned up around 1:45 a.m. and headed to the owner’s private section where he texted on the phone and talked to guys in his group for about an hour and a half. Just knowing that kind of makes you want to never text again, doesn’t it?

Marie Osmond scouted out Jersey Boys, keeping an eye on the competition before heading backstage to meet the cast. Finally, Reverend Run’s daughters, Vanessa and Angela, had dinner at Strip House inside Planet Hollywood Resort.

BALLAS CHECKS OUT JERSEY BOYS

ballas
The guy on the dancing show wanted to go see a musical? Huh. (Photo by Al Powers)

Mark Ballas of Dancing with the Stars kicked off his weekend with girlfriend and former American Idolista Joanna Pacitti at Tao Beach Friday before doing dinner at Tao and hitting up the 7 p.m. show of Jersey Boys. So, someone from DWTS is dating someone from Idol. If they wanted to have a three-way, would it have to be someone from a contest show? Would it take like nine weeks to narrow it down?

At Tao for club action were James Posey of the New Orleans Hornets with a group of 12 for a friend’s brithday, and Houston’s Tracy McGrady. Lavo got retired quarterback Warren Moon for dinner before heading up to the club.

Meanwhile, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (well hello again, The ’90s) were at Wet Republic at MGM Grand to do do a quick performance and announce the release date for their new album, Uni5 on Sept. 22. We believe advance copies are available at the crossroads.

JERSEY BOYS GETS NEW DEVITO

Sadly, not the one from Twins. (Via myspace.com/devenmay)

Deven May, who gained fame and fortune as Bat Boy in the Off-Broadway musical of the same name, is joining the Vegas cast of Jersey Boys as Tommy DeVito.

May played DeVito in the Jersey Boys national tour. Sadly, no new plans for Weekly World News-based musicals are in the works.

JERSEY BOYS CASTMEMBER DIES

(Left photo courtesy, right photo via JerseyBoysInfo.com)

John Altieri, who was originally cast to play Bob Crewe, but was unable to perform in the role after falling ill during rehearsal in the Las Vegas production of Jersey Boys at Palazzo, has died of complications from pneumonia. In a statement, producer Michael David said:

The opening weekend for Jersey Boys in Las Vegas was wondrous for us all. That said, it was also bittersweet. On the day after our opening performance a beloved cast member passed away. John Altieri performed for fifteen months as Bob Crewe with the National Tour of Jersey Boys, then joined the Las Vegas company, where he fell ill some weeks ago while the show was in rehearsal. After a series of complications from pneumonia, he passed away May 4, 2008. It has left us stunned. Beloved within the Jersey Boys family, he will be sorely missed by all.

Fellow Jersey Boys castmember Eric Gutman remembers Altieri. Understudy John Salvatore is currently filling the role.

VALLI COMES, COMES, COMES OUT TONIGHT

Turning the four syllables of “Sherry baby” into nine since 1962. (Photos by Erik Kabik)

Jersey Boys had its premiere at The Palazzo Saturday night with Frankie Valli and remaining original Four Seasons Bob Gaudio and Tommy DeVito as well as producer/songwriter Bob Crewe. Also on hand were John Cleese, John O’Hurley and Rita Rudner.

No witnesses were able to confirm whether Cleese silly-walked down the red carpet.

The premiere also doubled as a 74th birthday celebration for Valli, who scored a No. 1 hit with The Four Seasons with their debut single, “Sherry.” It was not, as one might imagine, about fortified wine.
