DJ AM’S SNEAKER COLLECTION UP FOR BID

We really wish someone would sneak just one pair of clown shoes onto the list. (Photo by Melissa Reese | SpyOnVegas.com)

The family of DJ AM has been auctioning off the former Rain resident’s sneaker collection since Sunday through the DJ AM Memorial Fund on eBay.

There are currently 76 pairs of kicks up for grabs with these black and read Pusheads already going for over a grand, but the last auction from this batch doesn’t end until Sunday evening, although new auctions from AM’s collection of 900 pairs of shoes will be added through December.

Proceeds from the auctions will go to the DJ AM Memorial Fund, to benefit organizations and projects committed to issues of addiction and recovery. If they really want to get the money flowing on this baby, we’re pretty sure we have a pair of Reeboks still floating around that we used to wear to mow the lawn in high school. They know how to get in touch. That offer stands, anytime. We’re charitable like that.

JAZZY JEFF SPINS AT RAIN FRIDAY

DJ Jazzy Jeff will take over at Rain inside the Palms this weekend as part of the property’s Fabulous Fest Labor Day Weekend electronica extravaganza. Earlier in the day, Steve Aoki spins poolside for Ditch Friday while Scotty Boy opens. Ticketholders to Rain that night will be able to bounce back and forth to the pool where Danny Love is in the booth.

Though there’s been no decision made on who will replace DJ AM as Rain’s Friday night resident, the N9NE Group is meeting today to discuss it. Meanwhile, police say OxyContin was found on Adam Goldstein’s body with a report in People today citing a source claiming his death was suicide. Others close to the DJ have said it was accidental. The Los Angeles Palladium will host a tribute to AM tomorrow night.

Also on the bill for Fabulous are Miguel Migs, Nickodemus and Keith Evan at noon on Saturday at the pool. Paul Oakenfold comes back to Perfecto at 9 p.m. to mark the one-year anniversary of his residency fresh off his tour with Gypsy-lovin’ Madonna while Louis Puig and Frank Richards also spin. At the pool, DJ Eric Cubeechee does a night set. Click for more words and pictures »

RAIN OFFERS TRIBUTE TO DJ AM

(Photos by Joe Fury)

On a night where the crowd should have been in working in a sweaty, beat-fueled frenzy, there was silence.

DJ R.O.B. (Robert Hathcock) who regularly opened for DJ AM, stopped the music at midnight to call for a minute of silence to honor Adam Goldstein, DJ AM, found dead yesterday in a Manhattan apartment at age 36.

With lighters and cell phones in the air, R.O.B. spun Diddy’s “I’ll Be Missing You” to a photo montage of AM. DJ Greg Lopez joined R.O.B. on stage while club staff wore AM T-shirts and Nike sneakers. AM was a sneaker enthusiast. A table at the entrance served as a memorial for guests to leave flowers and mementos.

The New York Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy was inconclusive pending results of a toxicology screening which won’t be available for several weeks. Police say they found a bag of crack on AM’s body and are calling it an apparent drug overdose, according to the New York Post.

DJ AM DEAD AT 36

According to reports on TMZ and in the New York Post — and now pouring in from other sources — Adam Goldstein, DJ AM, was found dead in a Manhattan apartment and drug paraphernalia was found with him. He was 36.

AM was scheduled to perform tonight at Rain inside the Palms. The club will remain open with DJs R.O.B. and Greg Lopez spinning. There will be a special tribute at midnight tonight in honor of Goldstein.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of DJ AM’s passing. He was not only our resident DJ at Rain Nightclub inside the Palms Casino Resort, he was also our brother in music. His impact was felt immediately and will have a lasting effect on all who had the chance to experience ‘AM Fridays,’ ” N9NE Group managing member and co-founder Michael Morton said. “He is a gifted and talented artist who changed the international music scene and helped make Las Vegas one of the DJ capitals of the world. He will be dearly missed.”

The DJ’s representative asked for privacy.

“Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein was found deceased this afternoon in his New York City apartment. The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. Out of respect for his family and loved ones, please respect their privacy at this time.”

Goldstein was involved in a fatal plane crash Sept. 20 that left him and Travis Barker severely burned. Less than a month later he performed with Jay-Z and a week after that resumed his then-residency at Pure. He started a new residency at Rain on April 24.

He was at one point linked to an MTV show tentatively titled “Gone Too Far” that was to be a reality show centered around interventions for kids hooked on drugs.

He was also scheduled to spin at a Magic party for Travis Barker’s Famous Stars and Straps at Rain on Tuesday with Mix Master Mike and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Radar Online is reporting that AM was having trouble getting off painkillers that he was taking after the crash, and that he was dealing with depression. Now TMZ is reporting he was distraught over a recent breakup with girlfriend Hayley Wood.

JAZZY JEFF TEAMS UP WITH AM

jazzyam
What about a four-by-eight with DJ Yella and Terminator X? (Photo by Joe Fury)

DJ Jazzy Jeff rocked a two-by-four set with DJ AM at Rain inside the Palms Friday night. If only Jam Master Jay were still with us, it could’ve been a spectacular three-by-six. We’re kind of disappointed before they booked the show that no one ever bothered to even inquire what Spinderella might be up to that night.

They did their thing for a crowd that, naturally, included a couple of players for Manchester United soccer. Right back Danny Simpson and defender Wes Brown were there, along with Liverpool right winger Jermaine Pennant, Charlton Athletic defender Jonathan Fortune, goalie Graham Stack of Plymouyth Argyle and middie Adam Lallana of Southampton. Notably tougher athletes Rampage Jackson and Rasheed Wallace of the Pistons had tables at the club, too.

Saturday saw Billy Idol come in to Rain with a group of eight and drank white wine, so whether or not he’s actually tougher than a soccer player is up for debate. Billy Idol + whiskey = yes. Billy Idol + chardonnay = maybe tougher than a midfielder, but probably not harder than a goalie.

Pro skater Bob Burnquist was at Playboy Club Friday night.

DJ AM KICKS IT OFF

And away we go. (Photos by Erik Kabik. Additional photos by Scott Harrison | Retna)

The much-anticipated debut of DJ AM at Rain was Friday night, where Adam Goldstein spun for a packed house. Kenny Chesney, meanwhile stuck to Ghostbar. Well, there goes our longstanding theory that Chesney’s next album was going to be a new country/electroclash/house mash-up record. Guess that leaves the door wide open for Brooks & Dunn, though. Ball’s in your court, guys.

On Saturday, Pauly Shore was at N9NE Steakhouse with a friend before going to Playboy Club with his manager and a couple of buddies. Heroes’ Milo Ventemiglia and the Emmy nominee Masi Oka were there with a crew of eight. With all that cheerleader saving well in the rear view, it’s certainly time to kick back with a drink.

Seattle Seahawks wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh was there with his wife and two friends. We’d love to know how many hours Houshmandzadeh has lost off his life when he’s out and has a tab going at the bar, then has to try to explain to the bartender which credit card is his. “It’s Houshmandzadeh. H-O-U-S-H-M– no, no U-S-H-M, as in Mary — A-N-D — no, this is all still one word. You know what? It’s the only Bengals Visa you have back there, OK?”

RAINY DAY FOR DJ AM

am_rain
If Pure can lure away Moon regular Too Short, it would be game on. (Photo by Hew Burney | SpyOnVegas.com)

Tonight it’s finally on when DJ AM steps in the booth for his new residency at Rain inside the Palms. They double back with Paul Oakenfold tomorrow night for his Perfecto series, with an opening set by Jack LaFleur. We still contend that the biggest move a club could make to bring in a splashy DJ would be to lure Zombie Jam Master Jay, but is anyone even trying to re-animate the Run-DMC turntable whiz and lure his shambling, undead body into a booth? No. Of course they’re not. A bunch of quitters. That’s what we have in this town.

DJ AM GETTING INTERVENTION SHOW

He wants his MTV. (Photo by Al Powers | SpyOnVegas.com)

DJ AM is going to be on the MTV. Obviously, it’s not going to be for anything DJ related, because that would mean MTV is doing something with music. Instead, he’s going to be in a series tentatively titled “Gone Too Far,” that’s going to be an intervention reality show for kids on drugs. It doesn’t have an air date just yet.

DJ AM TO MAKE IT RAIN

mayweather
But will Mayweather go with him? (Photo by Hew Burney | SpyOnVegas.com)

DJ AM is going to be heading up Flamingo starting April 24 when he shifts his residency to Rain at the Palms from Pure starting April 24. He’ll be spinning on select Friday nights. The addition of AM gives Rain a double dip of high-profile DJs with Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto running on Saturday nights. When we open our club, it’s going to be even bigger than that, though, as we’re in negotiations with Zombie Jam Master Jay to do three nights a week.

AM CALLS IT A COMEBACK

He’s been here for years, rockin’ his peers, puttin’ suckers in fear.

DJ AM was back in his familiar spot at the DJ booth inside Pure at Caesars Palace last night, hitting the turntables around midnight after DJ Hollywood warmed up the crowd. When Hollywood got on the mic to welcome AM back, the crowd let loose. See, Tom Wolfe? You can go home again. Why yes, that was the first Tom Wolfe reference in an item about a DJ ever. You’re welcome.

There to check out AM’s return were DJ Homicide, Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, Starlight Tattoo founder Mario Barth and members of the Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E.
