Yes, you got to hear “Pigs in Zen,” “Stop” and “Jane Says.” But that’s about all you got.
Perry Farrell was the second headliner for the Bottle Rock It series at Red Rock Resort’s pool Saturday night. Now, nobody expects Farrell to have it all together: After all, this is a guy who said in an interview with FHM, “I’ve even heard people say that they preferred me being a drug addict. Honestly, I was pretty fucking cool.” When he came on 45 minutes to an hour late, it could have been just one of those things.
But then he had to go and do a set so short that it made the Ramones look like Phish. Farrell opened with Satellite Party material, accompanied on stage by guitarist Carl Restivo, wife/vocalist Etty Lau Farrell and six go-gos before bringing Dave Navarro out for a quick spin around the Jane’s Addiction catalog. Navarro, who hasn’t worn a shirt since about the Carter administration, was sharp, bringing the heat on “Stop.”
It just would have been nice to get more than a half-hour set. After the live music was done, Farrell set up shop behind a couple of laptops to DJ from the stage. At that point, though, it was too little, too late. A confused crowd ran for the hills when they realized there was nary a “Been Caught Stealing” or a “Mountain Song” on the horizon. This was supposed to be a warm-up for the set Farrell has planned at Lollapalooza. Maybe in Chicago he’ll think about stretching it all the way to 45 minutes.

Today’s the day for Bottle Rock It featuring Perry Farrell with Dave Navarro in a bit of a Jane’s Addiction reunion at the Red Rock Resort pool at 7 p.m. The concert series runs weekly at the pool, although we imagine that “Pigs in Zen” will feature less prominently in later installments. Should you prefer to only appreciate the musical landscape of the ’90s through the lens of Wreckx-n-Effect’s “Rump Shaker,” we understand. We don’t agree, but we certainly understand. Events at 10 p.m. unless noted. Click for more words and pictures »

Perry Farrell is returning to town Saturday for the second installment of Bottle Rock It poolside at Red Rock Resort, and this time he’s bringing along former Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro along with members of Farrell’s Satellite Party. The show, like last week’s Slash concert, will feature wine tasting that will help benefit The Springs Preserve. In a radio interview yesterday afternoon, Farrell confirmed that they’d be doing “Jane Says,” but you probably could’ve guessed that, huh?
If you’d like to go for free (and who wouldn’t?) be one of the first 10 to respond to tips-at-dailyfiasco.com and we’ll hook you up. We’re pretty awesome like that.

Don’t let anyone lie to you, kids: Smoking makes you cool. Cool like Slash. (Photo by Scott Harrison)
Slash stepped up Saturday for the launch of Bottle Rock It, the new poolside concert series at Red Rock Resort wherein wine, rock and environmentalism all come together. Really, though, just the wine and rock is plenty. Anything else seems like overkill.
The Velvet Revolver, Guns ‘n’ Roses and Snakepit guitarist brought Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, Jason Bonham and Royston Langdon of Spacehog along for the show. The quartet also stopped by to take in Katt Williams’ act at The Pearl inside The Palms. We weren’t actually sure Jerry Cantrell ever smiled, so the news comes as much of a surprise to you as it does to us. It’s not like Alice in Chains ever did a video featuring a creepy monk with his eyes stitched together like upholstery or anything.
Slash delivered a slew of classics, performing the blues standard “Born Under a Bad Sign,” Steppenwolf’s “Pusherman” and BB King’s “The Thrill is Gone” before bringing up Jason Bonham for “Bring it on Home,” which Led Zeppelin covered on their second album. Click for more words and pictures »
