GENTLEMEN, START YOUR LASSOS

Admittedly, this looks like a lot of fun up until the point where you get gored. (Photo by Sullivan Charles | SpyOnVegas.com)
Not on is it NASCAR’s Champions Week, but today marks the start of National Finals Rodeo, which officially makes Las Vegas a King of the Hill episode for the time being. It at least explains why for the next week and a half you’ll see more Wrangler jeans than Brett Favre’s closet. Consider it counterprogramming for all that abstract art going on display at CityCenter. Fans of the middlebrow are advised to stay home and watch their Wire DVDs over and over again. (Like we weren’t doing that anyway.)
The main event is nightly through Dec. 12 at the Thomas & Mack Center, but there’s a metric ton of entertainment around the rodeo too:
- Rodney Carrington is at MGM Grand’s Hollywood Theater nightly.
- Brooks & Dunn play Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Hilton.
- Comedian Ron White is at the Mirage Friday and Saturday and again Dec. 11 and 12, while Blue Collar Comedy compatriot Bill Engval is at Treasure Island tonight and tomorrow, and again Dec. 10 and 11 — topped off with Larry the Cable Guy at Mandalay Bay Dec. 12.
- McFadden’s at the Rio holds Ho Down Saturday night with line dancing and a rodeo roper contest, and then Cowboy Karaoke with bullriders Rocky McDonald and Beau Hill on Tuesday.
- Willie Nelson is with Asleep at the Wheel Saturday at Planet Hollywood.
- Aliante Station’s Access Showroom has Cash’d Out on Saturday.
- Randy Travis is at Monte Carlo on Sunday.
- Stoney’s is open nightly through NFR with Tabor Dame on stage.
- Trace Adkins is at the Pearl inside the Palms Dec. 9 at 10 p.m.
- The LoCash Cowboys are at the Thomas & Mack Dec. 9.
