Emeril Lagasse did his $1,000 a head Fifth Annual Canivale du Vin to benefit Three Square Food Bank Kids’ Cafe here and the Edible Schoolyard in New Orleans Saturday at The Venetian, bringing in Dancing with the Stars Karina Smirnoff to help out. A slew of chefs were on hand for the 700-person event: Mario Batali, Daniel Boulud, Wolfgang Puck, Charlie Trotter among others with Batali taking the Carnivale du Vin Honoree. We understand the appeal of bringing in a pretty girl for these benefits, but if you’re going to do one of these food-and-wine things, why not bring in a big guy who likes to eat and drink? How much wine and gourmet food is Karina Smirnoff going to put away? Jackie Gleason and W.C. Fields are dead, but they could at least get John Daly.
