REVOLUTION HAS BEGUN

Is that a monitor? So the revolution WILL be televised? (Photo by Joe Fury. Additional photos by Fury, Shane O’Neal.)
When Z-Trip was talking Thursday about his upcoming residency at Rain inside the Palms, one of the things that had him excited was the idea of putting collaboration front and center in the show.
There will be a bit more interaction and play on stage with guests. It’s about setting up four decks and having four decks operational at any given moment. Depending on who’s in town, I sort of think of that like jazz musicians. I feel like any really good DJ or jazz musician will be able to get down with anybody else on standards and vibe and cut and jibe with somebody. I want to have the ability to have that happen, when and if and however it happens. I’m a big fan of the the improvisation thing. Whether it be emcees coming and all of a sudden, oh let’s rock some shit. I think that needs to be embraced.”
Well, he wasted no time Friday night. While kicking of Z-Trip’s Revolution, the DJ was joined by De La Soul who got up to do three songs. Z-Trip went on to battle DJ R.O.B. before the 3 a.m. end of his set. Upcoming collaborations already include Will.i.am (if he can take a break from being in every third commercial during the baseball playoffs) and DJ P.
It was a busy night for the new resident, who was presented with the key to the Playboy Club before his set, which allows exclusive access to amenities on site while at the same time dramatically increases one’s odds of accidentally stumbling in on Hef naked in a hot tub. Guh. Matt Goss and Robin Antin also got keys to the club Friday night. Apparently they’ll give one of those to just anyone who headlines a show at the Palms. Easy as pie.
Up at Ghostbar, Pittsburgh Slim did two quick songs before switching up to Moon. Skateboarder Jake Brown was drinking Champagne before he left to check out Z-Trip at Rain. He completed the trifecta Saturday night with a trip to Moon with four friends.
Miss November 2009 Kelley Thompson was at Playboy Club on Saturday, while music producer Justin Blaze was spotted at Rain during Perfecto to catch a set by Darude.
