REFINISHED DOORS

Doors
Love them two times? Ech. It’s like an X-rated Coccoon parody at this point. (Photos by Erik Kabik | Retna)

It’s a documentable fact that the best Doors songs are their drinking songs. Fortunately, when original members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger were at Wasted Space on Saturday with Ty Dennis on drums, Phil Chen on bass and former Fuel vocalist Brett Scallions doing his Jim Morrison, they did both “Roadhouse Blues” and “The Alabama Song.” Otherwise, you’re just left with a lot of “Peace Frog,” and no one wants that. Even if you love the song, it’s still the dumbest name for a song since “Incense and Peppermints” (by the even-dumber band name Strawberry Alarm Clock).

Ray Manzarek is 70 years old and is still performing songs he wrote when he was 26. When we’re 70 we’re going to spend all our time shoplifting and “accidentally” groping 26-year-old girls. We’re not sure who will have the nobler dotage, but we’re pretty sure it’s not Manzarek.
