0718SAT: THE ROUNDUP

Possum Kingdom: Surprisingly little to do with possums.
Surprising Amount of Decent Music Week ’09 continues at Wasted Space inside the Hard Rock Hotel tonight with mid-’90s alt-rock radio staple The Toadies. True story: We got dragged to a wedding once where the groom insisted during the reception that the DJ play “Possum Kingdom.” We never found out if he had no idea the song was about a guy murdering his “wife” or if he knew, and he insisted on it anyway. Either way it’s completely awesome, but we really, really hope it’s the latter. Because if that dude ever snaps and kills his wife, there is no way in hell she can act like she never saw it coming.
Not only is the band’s first album, Rubberneck mostly about stalking and murdering women, it’s chock full of surprisingly catchy jams about stalking and murdering women. We haven’t seen that kind of commitment to the genre since Ted Bundy.
