WALKING WITH THE PANTHER

panther
Wait, no, LL Cool J has nothing to do with this.

You can see Steel Panther Friday nights at Ovation inside Green Valley Ranch, or you can see them Saturday night at Access Showroom inside Aliante Station, but that doesn’t let you have the experience of taking Steel Panther home with you. Unless you starred in a Slaughter video between 1989 and 1992.

The Panther recently signed with Universal, though, and dropped their first album, Feel the Steel in the U.K. last month. It includes guest spots from Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Justin Hawkins of The Darkness and M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold; and it’s set to come out here Nov. 3. You can already check out the video for debut single “Death to All But Metal” — directed by notorious metalhead and comic Brian Posehn and featuring a guest spot from Sarah Silverman — on YouTube.

We just had a quick chat with bassist Lexxi Foxxx about the new record. We’re not sure he knew what we were talking about at first, but he came around. Mostly.

So, tell me about the new album.

The album is awesome. It took us a long time to do. We couldn’t believe because it came out in London I think the 7th, Or whatever. We went over there and it took forever in an airplane. You’d think with all the new technology airplanes would go faster. That was the worst part, but when we went over there people thought we were foxy, so that was cool.

Another example of an American metal band that had to go to England to find success before coming back to the States was Twisted Sister. Was that the thought process on releasing the album overseas first?

I don’t know. I think they — I have no idea why they put it out there. They didn’t really say why they put it out over there. I think because we’ve been playing here in the States mostly in the West Coast for a while. I don’t even fucking know why they went to UK. My thought process was to put the whole thing out at one big time so everyone could go, “Oh, this is fucking awesome.”

You worked with some cool people on the “Death to All But Metal” video. How did that come about?

It was so awesome. Brian has been seeing us play ever since we started at the Viper like a long time ago. I don’t know how long. I’m fucking high. He’s on this show. My mom doesn’t pay the bills so we don’t have cable TV. I guess he’s on a show with Sarah Silverman. I don’t know. So he’s friends with her so she was in our video.

Have you been playing the song in Vegas?

Yeah. We play a lot of our original songs. We do maybe three or four. We try to do different ones every time so when our record does come out here the people who come to see us won’t be shocked when they see us play all original songs. We just did a video for “Community Property.” It was great because you got to kiss and fuck around with so many of the bitches. I don’t mean bitches, I mean hot chicks.

One of the benefits of shooting a video.

I got to fuck one of them too. It was awesome. That’s what’s cool about doing a video. The girls have to fucking kiss you and shit. Even when you’re not being filmed you’re still kissing on your chick and it’s awesome. Me and the couple of chicks I was doing, they weren’t even part of the video. The director just put them in when he caught us in a dark corner. The chicks were fucking hot and it was awesome.

Any plans for a big release party?

Basically whatever the label has us do, I really don’t even know. I hope we’re doing nothing but playing our own songs. We’ve been playing other people’s songs to get them to listen to our original songs. Hopefully other people won’t want to hear other stupid bands’ songs anymore.

But any plans for something specifically in Vegas?

I think we’re going to have a release party, one in L.A. and one in Vegas. I’m sure we’ll have something and you’re totally invited.

Sweet. Can I get in on any of those video chicks?

Totally. We’re going to have tons of them. It’s bitchin’. The label in England let chicks know when we were in town. They had like a contest for bitches who wanted to hang out with us on the red carpet.
