SOUTH POINT FULL OF BULL

We hadn’t considered sexy bullfighting before, but the idea is oddly compelling. (Photos by Erik Kabik | Retna)
Bullfighting is returning to Las Vegas for the first time since 1965 when it’s going to be at the South Point Sept. 14 and 15 and 27 to 30. This is bloodless bullfighting, though, which will no doubt disturb the angry ghost of Ernest Hemingway.
Also, as ardent lovers of steak and possessed of an irrational hatred of all things bovine, we’re more than a little disappointed that this is going to be bloodless. But then, it’s better than having PETA goons hang around outside the entrance and huck red paint on you all day. Did we mention we typically go to bullfights in fur? True story.
The second run of fights will be in conjunction with Mexican Independence Day. During today’s press conference, Don Bull Productions president Pedro Haces Barba showed off adhesive Velcro padded banderillas, which are used in bloodless bullfighting. You know what they get in regular bullfighting? Swords. Game, set, match. Bloody bullfighting wins.
Some of the world’s top bullfighters will be here, like Luis Bolivar, Enrique Ponce, Pedrito de Portugal, Eulalio Lopez “El Zotoluco”, Alejandro Amaya and Julio Benitez “El Cordobes.” So that’s good news for those of you in fantasy bullfighting leagues. Tickets are $60 and are available at TorosLasVegas.com or SouthPointCasino.com.
