DAILY SIP: DIEGO MARTINI PICOSO

picoso2
See those green flecks in there? You’ll feel thise soon enough.

Sometimes, it’s not enough to drink a drink. Sometimes you need to be challenged by it. And we don’t mean in the way your 14th shot of Jaeger challenges you much a whole lot more than the third.

MGM Grand’s Diego, which has a history of mixing peppers and cocktails kicks up the heat from even their mango-jalapeno shooters with the Diego Martini Picoso.

Chopped cucumber and diced serrano chilis are muddled with two ounces of El Jimador silver tequila, an ounce of Patron Citronge, an ounce of simple syrup and the juice of 1 1/2 limes. It’s shaken and strained into a cocktail glass and garnished with a cucumber slice. It’s an ethereal pale green with little flakes of chili floating in the glass. Click for more words and pictures »

0430THURS: THE ROUNDUP

exodus
Oh well. At least he didn’t win.

Exodus might be forever known as the band Kirk Hammett was in before he left for Metallica, but that doesn’t change the fact they’ve been pumping out crazy thrash metal for nearly 30 years. It’s not their fault their most famous member would rather hang out with Lars Ulrich. He’s the only one. We’re pretty sure Lars Ulrich’s kids don’t even want to hang out with Lars Ulrich. They’re at the House of Blues tonight with headliners Kreator, Belphegor, Warbringer and Epicurean starting at 6 p.m. Click for more words and pictures »

WELL, THAT WAS FAST

sccomedy
Take our comedy show, PLEASE.

Sin City Comedy, which made its debut two weeks ago at the Harmon Theater, is already packing up and moving on. Monday was the last show at the Harmon, but we’re told the show will be relocating to a new venue. What that is and when the comedy-and-burlesque show will start back up, we haven’t yet been able to confirm. More to come.

UPDATE: Sin City Comedy is moving to a new theater David Saxe just finished building at Planet Hollywood Resort above his V Theater, according to producer John Padon. The new theater, Padon said, is built for comedy.

“I think that this new space will be a much better fit for my show, and of course, the traction that the V Theater already has is a bonus as well,” Padon said in an e-mail.

The first comic for the new run will be Charlie Viracola, who will be shown on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson that same night.

FRIDAY MEANS HOT 100 DAY

Even Shock G wouldn’t pass on the Hot 100. (Photo by Hew Burney | SpyOnVegas.com)

If, by some chance, you missed out on last Friday’s SpyOnVegas.com Hot 100 at MGM Grand’s Wet Republic, and for some reason you still haven’t been to check out the video of Shock G’s performance there, you have a mulligan tomorrow afternoon.

Round 3 of the Hot 100 is tomorrow with a performance by Naughty by Nature and a fresh collection of the be-thonged for your viewing pleasure. It all gets going around 2 p.m. A hard-hitting documentary-style collection of girls from the first two rounds can be found here.

CAREY, CANNON MARK FIRST ANNIVERSARY

Seriously, it’s kind of creepy in its relentlessness. (Photos by Scott Harrison | Retna)

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey would like to remind you all how wonderfully, perfectly happy they are. Look, we’ve been saying for months that it’s a little sickening and we don’t trust it, but if you’re still drinking the Kool-Aid, they’re spending their first anniversary at Moon inside the Palms. Cannon will be on the turntables to mark the occasion. And he’ll probably be filled with all kinds of insufferable exuberance, too. For reals: How dare two people enjoy each other’s company this much for 12 months? Didn’t Married … With Children teach us anything?

AT LEAST IT’S NOT THE ACHY BREAKY

No matter how much you try to cool up a big, group line dance, it’ll never look like anything more than a newfangled Hokey Pokey. Newfangled Hokey Pokey, by the way, is the name of our new shoegaze/death metal indie band. Come see us every Tuesday!

CINCO’S COMING

speedy_gonzales_new
The adorable pride of a nation.

We’re scant days away from Cinco de Mayo, and thank God. It was tough going all of April without a major drinking holiday, but here comes Cinco, riding to the rescue. It was like the Guinness-soaked debauchery of St. Patrick’s Day happened a million years ago. Or maybe that’s just because we don’t remember it.

  • T&T at the Luxor is doing 12 hours of Cinco. They start at 11 a.m. and will have a Mariachi band playing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 3 to 6 and 7 to 10 with DJ Ernan spinning between sets. They’re bringing in an airbrush tattoo station and will feature $5 Hornitos shots, $5 Tecate and Tecate Light, $5 Hornitos grand Margaritas and a $500 photo booth contest.
  • Rockhouse at the Imperial Palace does $4 Cuervo Margaritas, 2-for-1 Coronas, 2-for-1 Bud Light Lime and buy-four-get-cinco-free shot specials.
  • McFadden’s at the Rio goes with a $5 unlimited taco bar, $3 Coronas, $5 1800 tequila shots and $15 1800 Margaritas by the yard.
  • Agave (10820 W. Charleston Blvd.) has a Mariachi band from 6 to 8 p.m. and offers $5 house margaritas and $2 Tecates.
  • Dos Caminos at Palazzo opens at 11 a.m. and will serve as the soundtrack release party for Rudo Y cursi from Sony Pictures. Entertainment starts at 8 p.m. with DJ Raul Campos, DJ Cyber Kid, DJ Carlos Sanchez featuring Vibe Elevator Rico Delargo and percussionist Cayce Woody.

DAT PHAN STILL STANDING AT IMPROV

dat_phan
We can’t approve of his use of headbands. (Photos by Erik Kabik | Retna)

Last Comic Standing — the show famous for letting alternative and veteran comics on, then crushing their dreams of ever achieving mainstream success — Season 1 winner Dat Phan kicked off his stay at The Improv at Harrah’s last night. Phan is here through May 3 and is doing two shows nightly at The Improv.

Phan was noteable on the show for keeping insanely detailed notebooks of his act, with bits broken down to running time and how many laughs they got. He was also notable for how much the other comics in the house couldn’t stand him. Who knew endless jokes about your Vietnamese mother will put off a room full of stand-ups?

0429WED: THE ROUNDUP

hardnox
We could see a little Pesci here.

The BeatClan’s HardNox is at Revolution inside The Mirage tonight. We were pretty disappointed when we first found out the BeatClan was a music thing and not a Joe Pesci-and-Frank Vincent-in-Goodfellas re-enactment society. Because really? Someone should get on that. Click for more words and pictures »

LOC AT ROK

We’re just trying to cut down on headline characters. It’s the economy. (Photo by Al Powers | SpyOnVegas.com)

The medina will be both funky and cold at Rok Vegas inside New York-New York tonight. There’s probably nothing we can’t tell you about Tone Loc that you don’t already know. He released his hit album Loc-ed After Dark in ’89, he had a less-successful follow up Cool Hand Loc in ’91. He went on to found software giant Loc-rosoft in ’93, painted the Mona Loc-a in ’96 and starred in beloved sitcom The Fresh Loc of Bel-Air in ’97.
