88 MINUTES HITS THE CARPET

Al Pacino or Keith Richards: You decide. (Photos by Scott Harrison | Additional gallery photos by Erik Kabik)

88 Minutes had its premiere at Planet Hollywood Resort Wednesday night with Al Pacino on the red carpet looking like someone told him this was the opening night of Shine a Light. We mentioned earlier that the reviews weren’t too kind. Well, more are rolling in, and it seems most of the critics aren’t thrilled.

David Germain of the Associated Press writes, “A stronger word than preposterous is needed to describe the, well, preposterous lengths director Jon Avnet and company go to engorge this movie with idiotic action, incomprehensible twists and loads of other nonsense.”

Although Andrew Sarris of the New York Observer was kind to Pacino, noting, “88 Minutes will add a little more luster to a career that has not been adequately appreciated perhaps because of the suspiciously seductive power of a little man with an outsize talent.”

Look, any guy who can have Fredo executed in cold blood will always get our vote.

For some reason, I was hanging around PH last night on the mezzanine behind Prive where handlers were sneaking in the celebs (yeah I dunno). Leelee Sobieski walked by. All I could think was, “Holy hell, she is tall.” I mean, she’s allegedly 5’10″, AND she was wearing heels, but she still looked like 6’5″. Insane. How she got cast opposite 5’6″ Elijah Wood in “Deep Impact” I don’t know.

Who’s the tool in the leather flame coat, though? He was hanging out near me last night too, and I have NO F*CKING IDEA who he is.

That is former Hell’s Angel and bodyguard Chuck Zito. So, probably a good thing you didn’t call him a tool to his face.

Oh. I should have known that. I did mention him right here on DF:

Whatever. I mean, was the flaming leather trench coat really necessary?

A flaming leather trench is always necessary.
