VALENTINE’S DINING IN VEGAS UNCOVERED

Let’s face it: Valentine’s Day is just another made-up, consumer-driven holiday that allows you to obscure your tumultuous about-to-break-up-for-the-fifth-time relationship. Why should there be one specific day for something that should be nurtured year-round? But I digress … For those of you looking to make friends jealous by blasting your fabulous Valentine’s pics all over MySpace or for those just looking to score, Daily Fiasco has kindly – and with love, of course – made a list of some cool restaurants and happenings about town for your over-the-top, love-filled extravaganza.
Origin India (4480 Paradise Road): This exotic restaurant is all about the aphrodisiac-infused menu; ingredients such as garlic, cumin, raw papaya and poppy seeds should get the night going. For $50 a person, a five-course meal is in store, with seating options at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Review-Journal’s “Best of Las Vegas 2007” establishment will even offer a special vegetarian menu for all you animal lovers.
Spago (Forum Shops at Caesars), Trattoria del Lupo (Mandalay Bay) and Postrio (The Venetian): Three of the five Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group’s Las Vegas eateries are spreading the love this holiday with different tasting menus starting at $75 per person. To top off dinner, the three are joining Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill (MGM Grand) to serve Director of Pastry (that’s a real job?) Kenny Magana’s Passionate Chocolate, a hot, passion fruit soufflé, inundated with — what else? – chocolate.
Strip House (Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino): Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity for those deprived souls who have yet to make it over to Strip House. X Rated Martinis (Christiana Vodka and X Rated Fusion Liqueur) served inside the House’s flirty décor is just what Cupid ordered. Not to mention, Executive Chef John Schenk has created some special dishes such as the Noel Turner Organic 10-ounce fillet and burnt orange chocolate crepe to get you in the mood … for dessert, that is.
Giorgio Ristorante e Caffe (Mandalay Place): Located between Mandalay Bay and the Luxor, the Valentino Restaurant Group spot is offering a special V-Day three-course menu created by Executive Chef Nico Chessa from 11 a.m. to close. For only $49 per person, you can pick from the specialty menu and if you’re brave – or just cold hearted – try one of the main dishes, Rabbit in Porchetta. The regular Southern Italian-inspired menu will also be served for those protesting love. Like us.
Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar (8721 W. Charleston Blvd.): This Summerlin establishment is offering not one, not two, not three but four days for lovers to enjoy its Valentine’s Weekend Sharing Menu. For $98 per couple, diners can enjoy either the Saucy Glazed 40-ounce Porterhouse or Puff Pastry Filled with Naked Lobster (as opposed to clothed lobster, we guess), both served with salad of choice. Tack on $9.50 to follow dinner with the Dark Chocolate Frangelico Fondue.
The Cupcakery (9680 S. Eastern Ave. or 7175 W. Lake Mead Blvd.): Forget dinner – let’s talk the good stuff: Dessert! Orders for The Cupcakery’s unmatched baked goods are being taken from now until Feb. 12 for the freshly baked Cupcakery Valentine’s Day Signature Assortment. Flavors include the Southern Belle red velvet cupcake, Coconut Bliss and Bugsy carrot cake for $45. That’s Amore, a white cake filled with Nutella crème covered in a chocolate hazelnut ganache and sprinkled with hazelnut crunchies, will also be made available in February alongside the year-round treats.
