944 SUPER VILLAGE CURES COMMON BOWL

50 Cent! Fall Out Boy! Velvet Revolver!

So Super Bowl Weekend 2008 is coming up in a little more than a week and, well, it sucks, because here you are, living in the sports book mecca of the Northern Hemisphere, but because of a confluence of NFL power issues and mysterious casino rules, Las Vegas’ formerly glorious SB parties have been reduced to lackluster “Big Game” gatherings.

Well, we were checking your other options for Vegas that weekend, and it’s looking a bit slim. Former Van Halen lead singer and ugly pants-wearer Sammy Hagar will attempt to fill the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms on Saturday at 8 p.m., but we’re not sure how this will positively affect your weekend, except maybe hearing Hagar perform his one true solo hit, “I Can’t Drive 55,” might inspire you to get on the road and drive … maybe to Arizona …

That’s right, kids. Not only is the actual “Big Game” being held just next door (hey — Glendale, Ariz. is “next door” when you can fly there in less than 45 minutes), but our friends at 944 Magazine are doing what they do best — throwing a giant, four-day party starting on Thursday, Jan. 31. The 944 Super Village is transforming four acres near the Scottsdale Waterfront 9at Stetson Canal) into a festival featuring live music from some of today’s hottest artists, art displays, fashion shows, charity fund-raisers and — get this — a mini Las Vegas Strip.

There’s too much going on for us to get into detail here, but here are some of the names you need to know: Fall Out Boy. 50 Cent. Wyclef Jean. Paul Oakenfold. Velvet Revolver. All performing live. And hopefully not performing anything other than maybe some “favors,” Paris Hilton will host 944’s six-year anniversary party, presented by Beacher’s Madhouse and featuring DJs Vice and Reach.

OK, we’re overwhelmed. See? That’s worth a five-hour drive, easy. Ask your boss for that Thursday and Friday off now and click here to get all the details. You’ll have a Super Championship Big Whatever Weekend if it kills you.
