GIRLS EATING OUT

This isn’t exactly what we had in mind when we asked to see “girl-on-girl” action.

Tonight for New Year’s Eve, I’ll be at a get-together enjoying general holiday merriment and some really good homemade grub. I’m always down for free food, aren’t you? Well, since you’re not invited, I’ll suggest some rather expensive dining options for those of you who plan to eat out on 2007′s final night. Las Vegas’ best restaurants are serving special New Year’s Eve dinners to celebrate the start of 2008, so skim through these choices and you’re sure to find a plate with your name on it. After all the threats and rumors that Jay-Z’s 24,000-square-foot sports bar would shut down before it even got the chance to open its doors, 40/40 welcomed a who’s who guest list to its grandiose grand opening event.
In your face, Perez Hilton!
When asked who would attend the bash prior to the doors opening, Jay-Z responded, “I don’t know! There’s so many people that have RSVPed. I know LeBron [James] and A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez) will be there. Those are my two guys. After that, you never know who you might see there.”
It’s really not about who was there, though. A better question would be who wasn’t there. With everyone from Jay-Z, Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Kanye West, Vanessa Simmons (Rev Run’s daughter), Just Blaze, Beanie Sigel, LeBron James and Gary Payton all the way down to the likes of Al Sharpton (WTF?), Joe Jackson (double WTF?) and … Alan Thicke (triple WTF? with a side of “oh no he didn’t”), 40/40’s opening was a night nobody would soon forget. It’s sexy, it’s intimate and it’s finally open: CatHouse, the new restaurant, lounge and nightclub co-created by chef Kerry Simon, impresario Billy Cross and five-time MotoGP champ Mick Doohan, opened to a waiting throng of people Saturday night inside the Luxor hotel-casino with a celebrity-filled grand opening bash.
The venue is quite unlike anything else we’ve seen: Thematically, its velvet wallpapered-walls and dangling chandeliers find their inspiration in 19th century Parisian bordellos. That vibe is fully realized throughout the venue, from the multitude of framed, vintage girly photos covering the walls to the lingerie-adorned staff and dancers. Click for more words and pictures »

OK, we don’t really care that Paris and Nikki Hilton were at Pure Saturday night with Nikki’s well-heeled boy toy, David Katzenberg. They’re always at Pure. Who can blame them? Then again, I think Paris just sleeps there in a room hidden beneath that VIP platform in which she’s always holding court.

What a weekend for Tao’s dining room … Friday night it was Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson. Saturday night, a triumvirate of hip-hop and R&B royalty—Jay-Z, Kanye West and Mary J. Blige—descended on the popular Venetian eatery and nightspot with 40 of their closest friends after Jay-Z’s concert over at the Pearl to enjoy such Tao favorites as chicken pad thai, Chilean sea bass, and of course, Kobe beef.
Oh, Mandy Moore was there too, though a bit earlier and, you know, with a much smaller posse.
Jay-Z and his crew didn’t make it up to the club after dinner, but plenty of other celebs did, including Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson and actor-musician-porn director Evan Seinfeld (husband of adult film star Tera Patrick).
SpyOnVegas super-photog Hew Burney was on the scene, of course, and we brought you some more pictures … Click for more words and pictures »

If $200 cover prices, Justin Timberlake songs and throbbing crowds aren’t your cup of tea for ringing in 2008, downtown Las Vegas’ Beauty Bar has an alternative: “A Shiny Sparkly New Year’s Eve.” For only $20, you get admission, an open bar from 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. and two entertainment options: Funky grooves inside spun by DJs Standing 8, 8-Bits and John Doe, or live performances in the back patio by Opium Alibi, With My Dying Breath and Secrets Kept in Suicide. Wow, sounds cheery.

UFC fighter Tito Ortiz — as well as some of his fellow testosterone-overloaded pals such as “Rampage” Jackson — partied it up at Tao inside the Venetian last night to celebrate some friggin’ “reality” TV show Ortiz is in called The Celebrity Apprentice. Right, in our reality, we compete for a spot to apprentice for Donald Trump with a dozen other C-grade celebrities. Everyday. Ugh …
Anyway, Ortiz showed up for dinner at the restaurant and nightclub with his girlfriend, porn megastar Jenna Jameson, who, judging by the above picture, probably didn’t eat anything. I mean, allegedly they had Kobe beef and sushi, but we’re guessing all the protein was for Ortiz, while Jameson just sipped some lemon water. And maybe some wasabi. Well, either way, Ortiz looks pretty happy to be there. With, you know, a porn star in his arm.

Well, it helped keep us up all night. Teatro Afterhours launched last night…er, this morning in the space next to Krave nightclub at Harmon Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard formerly filled by Lucky Cheng’s, and before that Krave Lounge, and before that E.A.T., and … well, you get the point.
Teatro — a production of nightlife entertainment and networking group Showcase Events — was created to revive the sensual, fun atmosphere of the after-hours parties held a few years ago inside the MGM Grand’s Teatro lounge, which was reconfigured as Rouge about two years ago. In its (brief) heyday, Teatro was something like the fusion of a strip club and ultralounge, sexy go-go dancers in their bare essentials bumping and grinding as phat beats pumped through the speakers and guests enjoyed the ambiance afforded by the red leather surroundings.
Well, now red leather is red velvet, with about double (triple) the space, but Pedi Amiri and the Showcase peeps have brought back the dancers (meow), the DJs and even the staff from the original Teatro. And if the opening party was any indication, they’re off to a good start. Click for more words and pictures »

OK, we know there are, according to some estimates, 58,4352,967* parties happening in Vegas on New Year’s Eve. But your friends at DailyFiasco are going to try and break it down for you, dishing on the best parties in town. Oh, sure, this a somewhat-biased post, because we’re about to persuade you to visit the most popular spots that we know people at, and prefer to suck up to. Got a problem with that? Didn’t think so. Just scroll down and play pick-a-party (or two, or four) to round out your Dec. 31 festivities: Click for more words and pictures »
